Input Route Matrix
| If you want… | Best route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Play in Closed Beta (historical) | Keyboard + mouse only | Beta builds rejected gamepad input — plan for K+M if future waves return. |
| Buy at Fall 2026 EA on PC | Check Steam store badges at launch | Controller support is advertised on Steam but not confirmed for day-one EA. |
| Couch play on Steam Deck | loftia-steam-deck guide | Handheld is separate from native pad support — Proton + Steam Input angle. |
| Accessibility / remapping | Wait for EA patch notes | Official rebind menus and Steam Input profiles not documented pre-EA. |
Input Methods — Beta vs EA Expectations
Rows marked * are beta est. until Qloud Games confirms EA control schemes on Steam or in patch notes.
| Input method | Closed Beta (Apr–May 2026) | Early Access expectation |
|---|---|---|
| Keyboard & mouse | Required — only supported input | Expected at EA (PC standard)* |
| Xbox / PlayStation gamepad | Not supported | Planned per Steam metadata* |
| Steam Input remapping | N/A — no controller layer | Likely if native pad support ships* |
| Steam Deck controls | Community K+M via Proton est.* | Not officially supported — see Deck guide |
What Closed Beta Required
During the Apr 22 – May 6, 2026 Closed Beta, Loftia accepted keyboard and mouse only. Beta coverage and player reports agree: plugging in an Xbox, PlayStation, or generic gamepad did not enable gameplay — menus and movement expected K+M bindings.
If Qloud Games runs future playtest waves before EA, re-check official Discord announcements. Input support could change between builds without updating this page immediately.
What Steam Lists for Early Access
The Steam store page flags full controller supportamong Loftia's features — a strong signal that Qloud Games plans native gamepad bindings at or after EA. That flag alone does not confirm day-one support: some titles ship K+M first and enable controllers in a post-launch patch.
Before you buy, open the Steam listing at launch and look for controller badges, Steam Input community profiles, and official patch notes. Our System Requirements page tracks PC specs alongside input notes.
Steam Input & Steam Deck Angle
Even when a game lacks native pad support, some players use Steam Inputto map keyboard actions onto a controller — especially on Steam Deck. Loftia's beta did not expose a controller layer, so community profiles were unreliable. At EA, profiles may appear if the executable accepts generic gamepad input through Proton.
Handheld compatibility is documented separately: official FAQ says Steam Deck is not officially supported but will “likely run fine.” Read the Steam Deck guide for Proton performance expectations — distinct from couch-friendly native controller support on a desktop PC.
What to Do Before EA
- Plan for keyboard and mouse on day one — do not buy a gamepad solely for Loftia until support is confirmed.
- Wishlist on Steam to receive controller badge updates when the EA listing finalizes.
- Cross-check the Beta feature scope table — input methods are not a listed beta-vs-EA row, but beta behavior informs expectations.
- Follow Events hub official update links for patch notes that mention controls.
